Edward Jonas’ distinctive style has attracted commissions from prominent subjects in the fields of law, medicine, government, education and professional sports. Author Tom Wolfe has referred to him as a “gifted creator of truth, skill and vision.” Noteworthy among his clients are professional golfers, Greg Norman, Fuzzy Zoeller, Peter Jacobson, Hubert Green and the family of Jack Nicklaus, as well as former Florida Governor, Buddy Mackay, and former US Ambassador to Vietnam, Pete Peterson.
At 18, he began his formal art study in Italy and later received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Florida State University. Jonas is co-founder and National Vice Chair of the Portrait Society of America, a non- profit, educational organization dedicated to furthering the traditions of fine art portraiture and figurative works. The organization now consists of over 3,000 artists from 17 countries across the world.
Equally versed in sculpture and painting, Edward Jonas’ work is grounded in classical methods and techniques. A professional artist for over forty years, his work is incorporated in many collections including the National Portrait Gallery, Smithsonian and the Nasher Sculpture Center, Dallas, as well as private collections across the country. He maintains his studio and residence in Tallahassee, Florida.
